The Honourable Chris Kourakis has today issued this statement:
“I am delighted and grateful for the honour that has been given to me with this appointment as the ninth Chief Justice of South Australia.
I am conscious of the scale of the shoes that I have been left to fill and the heavy responsibility that this position entails.
I have been asked what my vision is for the future, how I intend to tackle the documented challenges facing the Courts, what the community can expect with this appointment, and how things will change as a result of new leadership in the Courts Administration Authority.
It is too early for me to be commenting on these matters
However, I wish to take this opportunity to express my gratitude for the support that I have received from colleagues, the legal profession and court staff to date and to say that I am optimistic that we will continue to work constructively together.
I also wish to congratulate publicly those who today have been appointed to positions on the benches of the Supreme Court, District Court and Magistracy.”
Justice Kourakis is not available for interviews at this time.
Details of a swearing-in ceremony and/or special sitting are yet to be finalised but will be passed on as soon as practicable
