What
other facilities/services are available for people with disabilities?
An access ramp and automated door is located at the entrance and there is a lift
to all floors in the building.
Accessible toilet is located on the ground level.
Accessible water fountain located adjacent to accessible toilet.
Controls in lifts are at a suitable height for people in a wheelchair.
Braille available in all lifts for people with vision impairment.
An amplification system is installed in the courtroom.
Closest accessible car parking is in the Central Market Car Park, Victoria
Square or Mill Street Car Park (off Gouger Street).
Where do I go to find out about
an inquest?
On the day of an inquest, check the case list in the entrance foyer. If it is
not on this list, ask at the registry reception in the ground floor foyer.
What other services operate
from the building?
There is a social work service for bereaved families which is available every
day during business hours. Please make an appointment on (08) 8204 0600.
Where should a I go before a
hearing?
If you’ve checked the case list, go to the courtroom and report to the court
staff in the courtroom on Level 1.
How long before the hearing
should I arrive?
If you don’t have a lawyer, you should report to the court staff in the
Coroner’s Court five minutes prior to the commencement time.
If you do have a lawyer, you should arrive at a time arranged with your lawyer.
Is there a private room I can use
to speak to my lawyer?
Yes. On Level 1, there are two interview rooms where you and your lawyer can
speak in private.
Where is the nearest public
phone?
The nearest public phones are in the Adelaide Magistrates Court, or on King
William Street just outside of the Coroner’s Court.
Can I bring my mobile phone into
the courthouse?
Mobile phones must be turned off before you go into any courtroom, but
you can use them in the public areas of the building.
Where are public toilets located
within the building?
Level 1.
Is there a parents’ room
available?
There is a toilet, with nappy changing facilities, for parents’ use on Level
1.
Are there cafes near the
building?
Yes. There is café next door to the Coroner’s Office. There are also a number
of cafes within a few minutes’ walk from the courthouse, in Gouger Street.
Turn right at the front entrance gates, then cross at the pedestrian lights on
King William Street.
Where is the nearest bus
stop/train station/tram line?
Tram
The City to Glenelg Tram Station is located in the centre of Victoria Square,
directly in front of the building. To cross the road to the centre of the
square, turn left when exiting the building, walk to the corner and cross at the
pedestrian crossing. A free city tram runs from Victoria Square to North
Terrace.
Train
The Adelaide Railway Station on North Terrace is a 15-minute walk from the
courthouse, or five minutes on the free city tram.
Is there car parking available
near the building?
Under cover parking is available in the Market Carpark, and in Mill Street.
Limited street parking is available in Angas Street, King William Street and
Gouger Street using pay and display tickets.
Where is the nearest taxi rank to
the courthouse?
In front of the Sir Samuel Way Buidling (next to the Hilton Hotel) on the corner of
Victoria Square and Gouger Street.
What security procedures are in
place at the courthouse?
Uniformed Sheriff’s Officers maintain security in the courthouse, as well as
acting as court orderlies. All Sheriff’s Officers are trained to provide a
safe environment for everyone in the building.
Everyone who enters the building walks through an airport style metal detector. You may also be scanned with a hand-held metal detector. Nothing that could be used in an offensive manner is allowed in the building. This includes things like pocket knives. If in doubt, ask a Sheriff’s Officer.
If necessary, are there private
rooms where I can wait?
A meeting room may be made available with the Coroner’s permission.
How can I get an interpreter?
You can contact the social worker on (08) 8204 0600 if you need an interpreter.
Please give at least five working days notice if an interpreter service
is required. Tell the social worker the language and dialect you need.
