Courts

Welcome to the Courts home pages. In the pages that follow, you can find out about each of the participating courts of the South Australian Courts Administration Authority.

All care has been taken to provide you with accurate information. You may notice that there is more information for some courts than for others. That is because our site is evolving. We hope you will return periodically, to see what else has been placed on the site.

The participating courts of the Authority are the Supreme Court, District Court, Magistrates Court, Youth Court, Coroner’s Court, Industrial Relations Court and the Environment, Resources and Development Court. There are also a number of tribunals and commissions.

Civil and criminal matters are heard in the Supreme, District and Magistrates Courts, with the more serious matters being heard in the Supreme and District courts. Only the Supreme Court can hear cases involving murder and treason.

The Youth Court hears cases concerning children (up to the age of 18 years).

The Coroner’s Court investigates the circumstances surrounding deaths and disappearances.

The Industrial Relations Court is concerned with workplace relations.

The Environment, Resources and Development Court, as its name suggests, hears cases about developments, pollution, planning and land use.

For more information on any of these courts, click on the buttons to the left, on the pillars.
