The Courts Administration Authority is monitoring the COVID-19 situation and preparing for any potential impacts on services.
The Supreme Court and District Court will suspend all new jury trials due to commence on Monday 16 March 2020 for a period of 24 hours. A review will be undertaken to determine if jury trials can be run effectively whilst ensuring safe distancing. A decision will be made on Tuesday, 17 March 2020.
Jurors who would have formed a jury for a new trial today have been asked not to attend and will be updated tonight.
Jury trials that are currently underway will continue at the discretion of the presiding judicial officer in consultation with jurors and parties to the matters.
The Magistrates Court will continue as usual, however all parties involved in ‘general lists’, criminal and civil, are asked to discuss with one another, seeking an adjournment. The Court will facilitate administrative adjournments via telephone or email if both parties agree.
We encourage all members of the public who are not required to be in court to not attend because of difficulties caused by close proximity.
