From time to time CAA provide opportunities for law students or graduates to develop professional legal experience in judges’ chambers to improve their career opportunities.

Periods of placement is up to 10 business days in total. The actual placement period is subject to the operational capacity within court jurisdictions.

To be eligible for a professional work experience placement, the person must have or obtain a current child-related criminal history clearance prior to commencement.

The person is responsible for the cost of the child-related criminal history screening and must allow at least 6 to 8 weeks for processing.

International students seeking to undertake professional work placement within the CAA are subject to the same child-related criminal history clearance requirements stipulated above.​

A person from overseas enrolled in a foreign university who intends to undertake a professional work experience placement with the CAA must

• Have an appropriate and current Australian visa which allows the student to enter and stay in Australia, with conditions that permit the student to undertake study and participate in volunteer or work activities; and

• Present the original current passport to the Registrar or delegate upon commencement of the placement within the CAA.

Insurance cover for public liability and personal accident will be arranged through the CAA upon confirmation of placement.
