MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL REGISTRAR
MAGISTRATES COURT OF SOUTH AUSTRALIA

COVID-19 Update – Avoiding Attendance at Registry Counters and Filing of Documents

Wherever practical, the Magistrates Court encourages legal practitioners and other court users to avoid attending any Magistrates Court registry across the State.

From Monday 20 April 2020 and until the commencement of CourtSA Civil, parties should:

  • Lodge all Pre-lodgement Notices (Form 1A), General Claims (Form 2) and Minor Civil Claims (Form 3) via Registry Online, available at https://online.courts.sa.gov.au.
  • All other originating documents should be filed in the approved form by email or post, accompanied with a telephone number so payment can be taken over the telephone.  Cash and cheques are no longer accepted for the payment of civil documents (see General News Release dated 2 April 2020).  Any document requiring payment will not be taken as filed until payment has been received.
  • Where parties are required to lodge documents, where possible, these should be lodged in the approved form by email or post.
  • Where an approved form does not exist, all other written communication should be lodged via email or post.

Following the commencement of CourtSA Civil, parties should:

  • Lodge all claims and applications via CourtSA, where possible.
  • Where possible, parties should lodge documents via CourtSA.
  • All other documents should be lodged by email or post.

All emailed documents should be signed and lodged in PDF format.  Documents too large for email should be posted or lodged in a registry filing box located in a Magistrates Court building.
