The Courts Administration Authority and the Attorney-General’s Department commenced a small-scale review of the South Australian Magistrates Court Abuse Prevention Program (APP) in October 2024. The review aimed to evaluate the activities, outcomes, and impacts of the APP, identify program strengths and areas for improvement, and inform future funding decisions.
The Review of the Magistrates Court Abuse Prevention Program Final Report and Addendums (below) present the findings of this review.
The APP is a court-mandated behaviour change program targeted at men who have been violent towards their female partner/former partner. Established in 2011, it is the only program in Australia to which defendants are referred at their first or second court appearance, before any guilty plea/outcome or sentence.
