Statutes Amendment (Attorney-General’s Portfolio) Bill 2024
The Honourable Chris Kourakis, Chief Justice of South Australia, has received correspondence from the South Australian Bar Association (“the Association”) requesting that he retract public comments relating to legislation to abolish the title of King’s Counsel and replace it with the title of Senior Counsel.
The correspondence from the Association was received whilst the Chief Justice is on leave, and the request made despite the Bar not taking up two earlier invitations to meet with the Chief Justice to discuss their differences.
The Chief Justice has responded to the Association and is releasing all correspondence so that the public has a better understanding of their positions.
The Chief Justice is on leave and unavailable for further comment.
